Accessibility for People with Disabilities

Some persons with disabilities may qualify for Half Price Tickets through our Special Patron Ticket Program (SPT). For more information go to the Half Price Ticket page. These tickets are available only for certain performances, and restrictions apply.

Hearing Assistance

Infrared Earphones jpg (2k)Patrons in all seat locations may listen via lightweight infrared earphone sets which amplify the production. A limited number of sets are available for all performances at no charge and without prior reservation.

Equipment may be obtained from an usher in exchange for an approved identification card.

Narrated Performances

Audio Description Icon gif (3k)Select performances are narrated by volunteers from The Metropolitan Washington Ear. Patrons can listen via lightweight earphone sets. You will hear detailed descriptions of sets, lighting, costumes, body language, and actions on stage. A limited number of sets are available at no charge and without prior reservation.

Equipment may be obtained from an usher in exchange for an approved ID card.

Signed Performances

Signing in American Sign Language Animated gif (20k)Select performances are signed in American Sign Language (ASL). Every effort is made to provide a signed performance for at least one performance of each attraction.

Wheelchairs

Wheelchair Accessibility Icon gif (2k)Wheelchair users can be accommodated at specific locations in all sections of the theatre: Orchestra, Mezzanine, Mezzanine Box and Balcony. Wheelchair patrons may purchase one ticket for these reserved locations, subject to availability, with the express agreement that the ticket is to be used by the wheelchair user.

SPT tickets for wheelchair patrons which are available for some performances may be purchased only through the National Theatre Box Office. The number of discounted seats is limited, and the availability of discounted tickets at any specific time cannot be guaranteed. Telecharge cannot process orders for SPT tickets.

Full price tickets for wheelchair locations may be purchased through Telecharge at 1-800-432-7250 with a credit card. These tickets are available for all performances, although the number of locations available is limited.

An elevator and a wheelchair accessible phone are located off the main lobby.

Rest Rooms

Rest Room Icon gif (2k)Wheelchair accessible rest rooms and drinking fountains are located on the third and fourth floor (Mezzanine and Balcony) levels of the theatre. An elevator is available off the main lobby.

Half-Price Tickets

SPECIAL PATRON TICKET PROGRAM
A limited number of half-price Special Patron Tickets (SPT) are offered, subject to availability, as a courtesy to patrons with disabilities. These discounts are made possible through contributions by our show producers, by The Shubert Organization, and by The National Theatre.

SPT discounts cannot be combined with other promotional discounts.

TICKET AVAILABILITY
Tickets are available for Tuesday and Wednesday evening performances at 8 pm and for Sunday matinees. Call 202-628-6161 to verify show times. The allotment of Special Patron Tickets is limited and they are sold on a first-come, first served basis.

To secure the best choice of seating you should watch for newspaper advertisements and purchase your tickets as soon as box office sales open. Be aware that all Special Patrons (including Seniors and Students) share the same limited allotment of tickets, which often sells out. For information about current availability of Special Patron Tickets, call 202-628-6161.

CERTIFIYING ELIGIBILITY
You must present to the box office at the time of purchase a National Theatre Special Patron Card or a medical care provider's letter certifying disability.

NUMBER OF TICKETS
You may purchase one ticket at half-price with the express agreement that one of the tickets will be used by the disabled patron.

DESIGNATED PURCHASER
An associate may purchase tickets at half-price for you by presenting your National Theatre Special Patron Card at the box office.

SPECIAL PATRON CARD
To assist patrons with special needs, a National Theatre special Patron Card is available to facilitate ticket purchases at the box office and by mail.

BUYING SPT TICKETS BY MAIL
Holders of a National Theatre special patron Card may order tickets via mail by following the instructions received with the card. SPT mail orders are governed by all other procedures normal to mail orders, and are subject to the limitations of availability described above.

SECURING TICKETS AT THE BOX OFFICE
You can purchase your tickets at the box office, where individual seat locations can be chosen.

PAYING FOR YOUR TICKETS
You can purchase tickets with cash, personal check or credit card. Full Price tickets can be purchased through Telecharge by phone or Internet.

Check policy requires that the patron's name and address must be printed on the check by his/her bank and that his/her ID match that name and address.

SECURING TICKETS THROUGH TELECHARGE
With a credit card you can purchase full-price tickets by calling 1-800-447-7000. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Service and handling charges are incurred when ordering tickets in this manner.

SECURING TICKETS THROUGH MAIL ORDER
You can order full-price tickets via mail. Enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope, state number of tickets and location preferences, and provide two alternative performance dates/times. Enclose check or credit card number. Mail orders are subject to availability.

REFUND AND EXCHANGE POLICY
Tickets cannot be exchanged and are non-refundable.

The National Theatre complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The National Theatre is a 501.c.3 non-profit organization eligible to receive contributions.
