This series brings children and
their families to the National in Fall, Winter and Spring for theatre,
music, dance, clowning, juggling, story-telling, magic and instructional
nature and science shows.
Inaugurated
in 1980, this program has been continually presented under the generous patronage
of Marriott International, Inc. and
the J. Willard Marriott Foundationfrom
that date forward. The performances were initiated and produced for 14 years
by Kathleen M. Barry, and are now produced by Donn B. Murphy, with presentations
hosted by Patricia Jennings (pictured).

Gallery at the National. Admission is free,
but tickets are required,
and are distributed 30 minutes before each performance, on a first-come,
first-seated basis. Program schedules can be secured by sending a Self-Addressed,

DAZZLING DANCES OF SPAIN features
the DANZA DEL RIO COMPANY in choreography
ranging from the fancy footwork, explosive clapping and snapping castanets
of the fiery Flamenco -- to exuberant regional and refined classical
dances of earlier centuries. Live guitar and colorful authentic costumes
add flavor.
BARRYMORE EAGLE, the mascot
of the National Theatre will be on hand on opening day, with clowns and
balloons, to launch the season and celebrate ARTS ON FOOT.

KAMP KREATURES and a
magician-puppeteer create Magical Misadventures
as Snores the Bear and Eager Beaver try to perform a magic trick but all
goes wrong. The magician trips up on his own trick with a bird, and

PETER POLLUTER AND HIS PLANET
is
a rollicking environmental romp in which the kids take part, playing Planet
Earth, Connie Convenience, Ex-Stinked Dinosaurs, Wilma Waster, and Patty
Apathy. We find out what happens to garbage and dirty water, and
R-Heroes save the environment in the nick of time!

THE TY-RONE & TILFORD MUSIC
AND VENTRILOQUIST SHOW is a festive and funny party. Among
the featured guests are Rags the Dog, Jellybean the Outrageous Orangutan

OF GLOUCESTER is a musical version of the fanciful Christmas Eve
tale in which a harried Tailor rushes to finish a coat for the Mayor’s

the talking Cat and the busy Mice who help the Tailor meet his deadline
in a miraculously happy ending.
