September 20 - THE MISADVENTURES OF DR. FRANK-N-FLUBBER, PH.D.
A wacky scientist, Dr. Frank-n-Flubber, specializes in everything
from Chemistry to Quantum Physics in SYNETIC THEATRE'S
delightful comedy. He has the brain of a genius and the heart of
Leonardo da Vinci. Watch as his dream creation unfolds—Is
it Flubber? Is it alive? A robot? Or, a chemical element yet to
be discovered? Using hilarious physical comedy, illusions, outrageous
visual tricks and props, audiences discover the classic art of pantomime,
the art of telling a story without speaking a word (with a zany
twist)
BARRYMORE
EAGLE, the National Theatre mascot, will be present for this
opening show of our season to pose with the kids, so bring your
cameras!!! Also, this is ARTS ON FOOT DAY, with special
events for family fun. After the show, you can enjoy a day downtown
at the festival enjoying "open house" at many galleries
and theatres, plus food pavilions and music on outdoor stages in
Washington, especially along the 7th Street, NW, entertainment corridor.
September 27 - MAGICAL EXPERIENCE
He
began doing magic when he was five, and three years ago ERIC
REDMAN was named a “Warrior” by the elders
of a Massi Marah village in Kenya for his dexterity with playing
cards. This savvy teen wizard will amaze you! Levitations, tricks
with cards, rings and doves, and other astounding feats of legerdemain
will keep children and adults asking long after the performance,
“How did he do that???”

October 18 - ONE GOLD COIN
A
woman healer arrives in a poor village in an imaginary village in
Central America. She wears around her neck a large gold coin which
she promises to give to someone who truly needs it. In this moral
fable presented by INTERACT STORY THEATRE, each
person who receives the coin learns that the gold is most valuable
when it is given away.
October 25 - THE NEARSIGHTED KNIGHT AND THE FAR-SIGHTED DRAGON
Theatre West Virginia presents this musical delight in which
November 1- THE SILLY CIRCUS
Stringed performers come into the center ring as the STRINGLING
MARIONETTES stage a rollicking circus with an all-animal
cast. Starring are an acrobatic mountain goat, a bear balancing
a ball, and an exuberant elephant who blows bubble. Whistles, bells,
keyboard and horns accompany the troupe
November 15 - THE SCIENCE SHOW
On
the bill for today are lightning, gravity, safety glass and brain
surgery. JOHN HADFIELD uses juggling, comedy, balancing, magic and
music in this wacky tour-de-farce exploration of our wonderful world.
From his rap song about accidental inventions to his hair-raising
experiment with electricity you’ll enjoy this exciting, energetic
and highly entertaining performer.
November 22 - THE SONG OF MULAN
With
dazzling and authentic costumes and props, and with lovely songs,
THEATRE IV presents the noble Chinese folk tale
of the extraordinary heroine Mulan. a brave young girl, she takes
the place of her ailing father to serve in the army of Khan. Disguised
as a man, she bravely risks everything to maintain family honor.
Enjoy this an educational journey to the heart and soul of an ancient
civilization.
December 6 - THE AMERICAN ADVENTURES OF LEWIS AND CLARK
Come
along with the famous explorers as they open the way to the Pacific
Ocean, discovering the beautiful people, plants, and animals of
the western United States in 1804. Meet the remarkable Sacagawea,
a Shoshone interpreter and peacemaker with the expedition. THEATRE
IV’S high-spirited musical will open your eyes and warm your
heart as you travel the American West.
December 13 - PUSS IN BOOTS
Exquisitely
fashioned marionettes and shadow puppets combine to tell this timeless
tale. featured are kings and paupers, ogres and princesses, and
of course one boot-clad cat who uses his wits to win favor and fortune
for his master. The classical Charles Perrualt story has entertained
and enthralled people around the world for more than 300 years and
will delight today’s children of all ages in this version
presented by APPLAUSE UNLIMITED.
January 24 - GENERAL FOOLISHNESS
In a briefing on "the latest in military technology,"
the General meets with one comic disaster after another. Whether
blowing reveille while balancing atop an unsupported ladder, jumping
rope on an "all terrain vehicle," or bringing out "the
big one," the PAUL HADFIELD captures his audience with good
old fashioned comedy. Audience participation is central in a madcap
adventure that appeals to both children and adults alike.
January 31 - LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD
In this CLASSIKA THEATRE marionette show, Red
Riding hood travels to her grandmother’s house with a basket
of goodies, but on her way, she encounters fascinating characters
not in the traditional fairy tale. Among them are the Timorous Rabbit,
the Hungry Bear, and the Sly Fox. Red Riding Hood discovers how
the good animals of the forest band together, look after each other,
and live bravely and harmoniously. Not a bad idea.
February 7- THE SHIRT OF HAPPINESS
Inspired
by folk tales from Armenia and Italy, this is a lively story about
a sad prince who is on a quest to find the true meaning of happiness.
The prince meets many wild, wacky, and wonderful characters on his
journey. The jovial performers from INTERACT STORY THEATRE
enlist audience members to help him to success.
February 21 - THE RELUCTANT DRAGON
Young
Robert, one of the delightful BOB BROWN PUPPETS,
learns of a dragon hiding in a cave, and goes to see it. However,
word of Robert's discovery leaks out, and Sir George the Dragonslayer
sets out to conquer the “horrible beast.” Robert and
Marmaduke, the frightened little dragon, must face the ferocious
warrior.
February 28 - HARRIET TUBMAN AND THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD
Share the adventurous life of a great American heroine whose courageous
actions helped free thousands from the bonds of slavery and helped
change the world. Her adventures and accomplishments come to life
in this true-to-life and deeply moving musical play, presented by
THEATRE IV.
Mar 6 - SOMETHING FOR NOTHING???
In
these lively Trickster Tales, ne’er do well characters scheme
to reap rich benefits from dishonest tricks. Puppeteer KATHLEEN
JACOBS enlists kids (and their parents!) to play rolesof
those who outsmart the greedy puppet villains. The whole audience
joins in to help our heroes triumph.
March 13 - REPTILE WORLD
Meet
a collection of live, gentle, colorful and fascinating creatures
from all over the world in one of our most amazing presentations.
From MICHAEL SHWEDICK children learn thrilling
lessons about the ecology, themselves, and these beguiling animals
friends. Adults will be fascinated as well.
March 20 - RADIO WOOF
This
rousing celebration of folklore features BILL WELLINGTON’S
lively banjo music, funny folk songs, fancy fiddling, and fantastic
storytelling. Bill enthusiastically shares his message that folklore,
whether in the form of a familiar jump-rope-rhyme or a spellbinding
story from another land, is a marvelous treasure we have inherited.
March 27 - BEN FRANKLIN AND HIS KITE
In
June of 1752, Ben Franklin "shocked" the world with his
discovery that lightning held electricity - and thus rendered scientists
"thunderstruck!" THEATRE IV brings this
great and fascinating American patriot, scientist and man of letters
to the stage in a vibrant and entertaining play right from the pages
of U.S. history.
April 3 - HORN'S PUNCH & JUDY SHOW
This
traditional classic features an ornate Victorian stage and a script
performed in Baltimore since 1897. Ten wooden puppets, painstakingly
carved and hand painted in England, are the stars, guided by PROFESSOR
HORN who also performs some amazing feats of legerdemain.
To top it all off, the performance includes the playing of a genuine
vintage hand-cranked hurdy-gurdy.
