This series brings children and their families
to the National in Fall, Winter and Spring for theatre, music, dance, clowning,
juggling, story-telling, magic, nature and science shows.
Inaugurated
in 1980, this program has been continually presented under the generous patronage
of Marriott International, Inc. and
the J. Willard Marriott Foundation from
that date forward. The performances were initiated and produced for 14 years
by Kathleen M. Barry, and are now produced by Donn B. Murphy, with presentations
hosted by Patricia Jennings (pictured).
Performances are in the Helen Hayes Gallery at
the National. Admission is free,
but tickets are required,
and are distributed 30 minutes before each performance, on a first-come,
first-seated basis. Program schedules can be secured by sending a Self-Addressed,
Stamped Envelope to "Saturday Morning," National Theatre, 1321 Pennsylvania

features MICHAEL CHAMBERLAIN's dazzling
versions of such legendary effects as the Mystery of the Chinese Rings,
the Snake in the Egg, and the Vanishing Head Illusion -- in which a spectator's
head, miraculously pierced with arrows, disappears entirely! OPENING
DAY! BARRYMORE EAGLE,
the mascot of the National Theatre will be on hand on opening day, with

THE VOYAGE OF SINBAD is one
of Scherhezad's tales from the "Arabian Nights." It is told for us by THE
RAINBOW COMPANY, with lots of help from kids in the audience -- who don
costumes and take roles in this magical adventure. This is ARTS
ON FOOT DAY, with special events downtown for family fun, so after the
show, enjoy the festival at many galleries, theatres, food pavilions and outdoor
stages in downtown Washington, especially along the 7th Street, NW, corridor.

REPTILES is a wildly exciting performance by REPTILES
ALIVE! Live snakes, lizards and other often misunderstood reptiles
from far parts of the world are introduced to the children by Caroline Seitz,
a wild-life rehabilitator who rescues many of the animals seen in her show.

CIRCUS MILLENNIA presents
HATS,
in which Sara, a misfit clown, without the traditional wig and costume
must at least find a hat! She encounters various circus performers
doing their acts while wearing various headpieces which they offer her.

SANTA'S CHRISTMAS MIRACLE

Christmas Eve, 1892, Big Bad Bart is jailed in Broken Bone, Montana for
the umpteenth time, sharing his cell with a jolly bearded stranger.
The sheriff's daughter suspects it’s Santa, come to bring Christmas back
to Broken Bone!

A boy chooses the Velveteen Rabbit over all his other toys to be his special
playmate. Tattered and torn over time, the Rabbit remains true as
the boy grows up. (This presentation
