one Half-Hour Prior to Performance, on a First-Come First-Served policy.

This weekly showcase in the Fall, Winter and Spring, features local performers, and provides free quality live entertainment to the Greater Washington Area community. Original plays, singers, musical ensembles, dance, drama and comedy are on the bill.

SONGS AND COURAGE IN A TIME OF CIVIL WAR

Reenactors of the 138th Pennsylvania Regiment, remembered for valor at the Battle of Monocacy, present soldiers' letters, and songs sung around the camp fires and home fires, including "Dixie,” “Bonnie Blue Flag,” and "Battle Cry of Freedom." On the antique melodian, producer GARY SCHWARTZ accompanies this cavalcade of heartbreak and bravery, saluting both North and South.

REDEMPTION RITUAL: INVITING THE ANCESTORS TO BE PRESENT

This moving presentation was conceived by DOUGLAS McARTHUR JOHNSON and is presented by JAH KENTE INTERNATIONAL. It features Harlem Renaissance poetry by Countee Cullen, Langston Hughes, James Weldon Johnson and others. Stirring words illuminate the African-American experience from Mother Africa to the New World, and from tribulation to glorious triumph.  RUFUS. T. STEVENSON is the producer and JACKIE CARTER is the Director.

COLUMBIA FLUTE CHOIR
Enjoy the unique sound of an ensemble featuring all members of the flute family including piccolo, C flute, alto flute, bass flute, contrabass flute, and sub contrabass flute in G. The Choir, under the direction of SHARYN BYER, presents a variety of classical music as well as original works for flute choir

Young people overcoming formidable challenges take our stage tonight. Guided by director SANDI HOLLOWAY, they forge heroic drama from real-life experience. In no-holds-barred improvisational scenes, frustrated teens alchemize anger, pain and injustice into the pure gold of self-recognition. Prepare to be amazed and touched.

NEN DAIKO: THE POWER AND BEAUTY OF TAIKO DRUMMING
The fabulous drummers from the Ekoji Buddhist Temple present kumi daiko – ensemble drumming – played on large Japanese drums with choreographed movement. Their performance embodies the bold energy and athleticism characteristic of this mesmerizing musical form. They will present traditional festival songs as well as more contemporary compositions.

THE LAUREEN O’NEILL-JAMES IRISH DANCERS
Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with an evening of high-spirited, high-energy jigs and step-dancing! Enjoy Dancers of all ages in colorful and authentic costumes. Volunteers from the audience will have an opportunity to step up and learn some of the steps themselves. You’ll be in style wearing something green on this special night when we are ALL Irish!

CLANCYWORKS DANCE COMPANY in “TAKING STEPS”
Experience an evening of visually stunning, athletically charged, and thought-provoking choreography performed by this dynamic young company. Founding artistic director ADRIENNE CLANCY is known for her gravity-defying lifts and inventive partnering with people, walls, and ladders.

The$INGING $TOCKBROKER'S RAZZ-MA-TAZZ REVUE

With high-flying zest GARY “$$” RICHMAN presents a madcap musical vaudeville. On the bill are Thierry Lamour,  “John Crow, The Singing Native American Software Guy,” “Flynnatra” channeling Ol' Blue Eyes, “Holly Richman, The Girl,” and “Steve Earle, The Singing Baloney Salesman.”  Enjoy solos, duos, laffs, and a chance to get up and dance in this riotous and nostalgic cabaret.

THE 2008 U.S. ARMY SOLDIER SHOW
Each year soldiers of all ranks, and from commands all over the world, come together in Washington to create a new edition of the Soldier Show. They then go on a globe-trotting tour, bringing music and smiles to their fellow troops. Tonight we get a special advance preview as cast members demonstrate some of the star-power talent which won them roles in the 2008 cast.


APR 14
THE OLD LANDMARK!  AN EVENING OF GOSPEL MUSIC

This is a play about revered early standard gospel songs and not-so-familiar gospel chants and dances.  The players will will shake the rafters and warm your hearts in this salute to the history of gospel music. MISSIONARY CHARISMA WOOTEN of Mary's First Child, a.d., is the author, narrator and producer of this moving choral and dance tribute.
