ESTONIAN FOLK DANCERS PILLERKAAR present a program of riveting dances in authentic national dress.  "Pillerkaar" translates to social gathering or party, and this evening will be a special one.  The dances celebrate ancient occupations of the working people, weddings, and the mimicry of animals in waltzes, circle dances, and polkas.

THE TAKOMA MANDOLEERS will strum their way into your hearts with a variety of traditional mandolin/guitar classics played by similar stringed orchestras which flourished early in this century.  In addition to classics from their library of more than 700 pieces, the group will include modern show tunes and other favorites, bouncy and romantic.

Kraft Paintings jpg (20k)EIGHT IS AN OCTAVE a synergistic fusion of visual art, dance and music.  Jazz legend Buck Hill has recorded saxaphone solo interpretations of portraits by local painter YVETTE KRAFT.  Celebrated jazz pianist PETER EDELMAN, and choreographer DOUGLAS YUELL, will improvise additional music, and dances, based on the canvases.

UNCOMMON FRIENDS IN RECKONING is an original play set in a hospital during World War II.  Sophie, an African-American nurse, is caring for Ruth, a terminally-ill escapee from a Nazi concentration camp.  Playwright INGRID CORNELL probes the life-changing drama which results from the challenge of a death-bed request.
