It's been called an "unforgettable experience," "as close to perfection as one can imagine" and "an American RIVERDANCE."  Bringing together the Best Broadway and Native American talent, SPIRIT is unlike anything you've ever seen.  The power of contemporary music, the wisdom of ancient culture, the energy of more than 60 performers all combine to make this SPIRIT soar.  It will life you out of this world, take you back to another age and return you to your seat inspired.  Come, rediscover your SPIRIT.

SPIRIT - A Journey in Dance, Drums and Song combines the dazzle of Broadway choreography and the power of contemporary music with the vibrant songs, chants and dances of Native American culture.  SPIRIT features more than 60 performers -- including 20 dancers disciplined in modern, traditional, and fancy dance, orchestral instruments from the most ancient tribal traditions to the electronic keyboards of the new millennium, the youthful voices of a multi-cultural choir and the thunder of percussionists pounding out heart-stopping rhythms on a variety of drums.

This multi-cultural rock and dance spectacular was conceived by Peter Buffett, in collaboration with Chief Hawk Pope.  Buffett is a composer/musician whose credits include sound track music for the highly-acclaimed CBS mini-series 500 Nations and films such as Dances with Wolves and The Scarlet Letter.  Pope, Chief of the United Remnant Band of Ohio, with credits including Disney's Pocahontas and Tecumseh: The Last Warrior, is the narrator and vocalist for the project.  The director and choreographer is Broadway's Wayne Cilento, best know for his Tony Award winning work on The Who's Tommy.  In SPIRIT Cilento blends his contemporary, urban dance aesthetic with traditional Native American dance to create a breath-taking spectacle.

Acclaimed "alternative" rock musician Robert Mirabal lends the mystical sound of the flute and a fierce beat to the native drums in a stunning, special guest performance.

A PBS Special, introduced by Academy Award Winner, Kevin Costner, debuted nation-wide on PBS in March 1999 in over 50 local markets.  The special was recorded live during the show's premiere performance weekend at the Weidner Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and was a break-out hit on PBS.  A live album of SPIRIT is now available in stores across the country on the Hollywood Records label.  The SPIRIT home video, available on Polygram, records SPIRIT's dazzling August debut, and features interviews and behind-the-scenes footage.  The live touring show of SPIRIT kicks off in New Haven on September 14, 1999.

After SPIRIT's premiere in Green Bay and on PBS, the press raved.  The Green-Bay Press Gazette proclaims that SPIRIT is "as breathtaking in its spectacle as it is inspirational in its spirit; an amazing display of artistry."  The Dallas Morning News exclaims, "SPIRIT is a soaring journey!"  The Cleveland Plain Dealer calls SPIRIT a "Dazzling celebration of American Indian Culture."  PBS station KVIE in Sacramento announces that "SPIRIT is a beautiful production and one of the hits of our drives.  It's the most exciting thing since Riverdance."

"In Dances With Wolves, Peter Buffet's music captured the power and emotion of the pivotal fire dance scene.  In SPIRIT, Peter, Hawk and Wayne take beauty, emotions and the true spirit of American to new heights.  I am honored to have been involved In SPIRIT, and I invite you to enjoy this spectacular event."
-- Kevin Costner, Host of the TV Special.
