Occasionally, free master classes are given by members of the professional touring companies for local dancers and actors. Tours of the National Theatre include discussion of the establishment of the theatre in 1835, the raucous Inaugural Ball held at the theatre in 1845, the parade of stars and changing theatrical styles from the 1840's to the 1990's, the view of the audience from the boxes where presidents sat, and from the stage on which countless famous players have appeared, a visit to the dressing rooms and wardrobe, and a trip beneath the stage where ancient stone foundations and the lair of Shakespearean actor John McCullough - the National Theatre Ghost - can be seen.
