The National Theatre Corporation
Mission
The
National Theatre—The Theatre of Presidents—has operated at the same location three blocks from the White House
since 1835. The mission of the National Theatre Corporation
is to keep this historic theatre operating, with top-quality
live stage attractions. Additionally, through our outreach
efforts, we bring free programs and other services to the public.
Our achievements would, of course, be impossible without the loyal
and robust efforts of our trustees and
staff.
Nor can we forget the funding
provided through the ongoing support of our generous sponsors and
contributors.
The Mission Statement of the corporation is stated in the Articles
of Incorporation, 1974:
“The corporation is organized solely for charitable, scientific,
literary and educational objects or purposes within the meaning
of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1954, with its
primary purpose to promote, both within and without the District
of Columbia, the development of educational and cultural activities
of the community. Such developments shall be promulgated by the
sponsorship, promotion, production, and presentation, through financial
means or otherwise, of musical, theatrical and other endeavors of
performing arts including without limitation recitals, concerts,
lectures, dance and light and grand opera, ballets, poetry readings,
meetings, lectures and other assemblies of similar nature, which
will be of aid and benefit to the cultural development of the citizenry
of the greater Washington area as well as visitors from the United
States and foreign countries; of programs for children and youth
and the elderly (and for other age groups as well) in such arts
designed specifically for their participation, education and recreation;
and of civic activities.”
